Client Background & Role Summary:

Our client is a British-based multinational medical equipment manufacturing company and they support the healthcare industry in more than 100 countries. They are setting up a new APAC Finance and HR Shared Service in Malaysia, and they are looking for Assistant Financial Controller. This role is to act as the single point of contact for the assigned Market Financial Controllers (FCs) and is a trusted partner for that individual.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the period end closing activities for all service towers and where necessary across centres, ensuring the books are closed in line with reporting timelines and with minimum omissions, errors and are free from post-closing adjustments
  • Review and approve period end balance sheet reconciliations, highlighting risks where appropriate
  • In charge of Target Operating Model alignment and consistency, identify and implement innovative ideas and best practice
  • Comfortable operating with delegated authority from the Market, independently from Retained Finance and in exercising judgement over low to medium risk accounting areas and controls
  • Ensure the end to end service is delivered to meet SLAs, KPIs and quality standards and in compliance with approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to assigned markets
  • Maintain SOPs to meet the Company’s standard cycles.  Highlight and challenge exceptions from global standards
  • Ensure controls are implemented and adhered to in line with Risk and Control Matrices (RACMs) and wider the Company’s  policies including the Group Finance Manual minimises Internal Audit observations and issues, and where raised ensures timely resolution
  • Ensure integrity of reporting and that it is performed in line with local GAAP requirements and the Company’s  financial policies and procedures
  • Responsible for more complex and judgemental accounting tasks as well as review and approval of those from the delivery teams
  • Support external and internal audit activity
  • Bring insight to the market Controller and team to improve end to end accounting quality, control, effectiveness and efficiency
  • Sense and respond to changes in the business and to accounting practice to ensure the finance function supports business strategies and remains compliant with local requirements
  • Support service transitions into the centre and quickly stabilises the delivery
  • Support transformation activities to deliver expected return on investment
  • Operate a Continuous Improvement culture and deliver / exceed productivity targets and other commercial benefits
  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of external statutory audit and tax compliance activities.
  • Make suggestions for the future use of new tools and technology especially in the Record to Report (RtR) process domain and where approved, implement into the Service offering
  • Identify reasons for service and control deficiencies and shortcomings and propose and implement solutions to resolve underlying issues
  • Engage in regular collaboration and communication with key stakeholders to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Coach, support and develop staff delivering to the assigned markets to understand accounting principles and business context for their activities to improve quality and consistency of delivery

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent
  • Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CIMA, etc. is a requirement
  • Experienced in a captive shared service or Business Process Outsourcing environment
  • At least 5 years of experience in leading a team of minimum 10 FTEs
  • Controllership experience is preferred
  • Experience of F&A service delivery in a Sarbanes-Oxley environment
  • Experience of implementing or improving processes using recognisedmethodologies such as Six Sigma, Kaizen, Lean
  • Experience of SAP (ECC6) and MS Axapta
  • Operational experience of other Finance and Accounting tooling, such as Trintech or Blackline would be an advantage
  • Team player with ability to build relationships and influence matrixed team members and wider stakeholders
  • Excellent English communications skills written and verbal
